I used to love Hallmark cards.
I still love hearts.
I used to love buying candles.
Today I made one out of an empty yeast jar, a Shakespearean sonnet ripped from an old text book, and a tea bag.
I used to think things had to be perfect, or at least shiny, in order to properly express loving feelings.
Now, I know sincerity and effort count most of all.
I used to think it was all about giving a thing.
But I’ve learned, it’s about giving myself.
I used to think it mattered how I looked
until I accepted that the best I’ll ever look is when I’m smiling next to him.
I used to think I knew what love was
…and then, there was them.
Whether today is Valentine’s or just Tuesday to you, find someone to love.
Happy Hearts today, from us.
